BUSINESS – The Next Generation.

The importance of the next generation of business leaders is clearly recognised by most organisations, both public and private, as is helping youngsters at an early age to have a better understanding of the way business runs. Such understanding is vitally important in assisting them to make the right career decisions early on in life.

To this effect, EBP (Education Business Partnership) Kent, based at the Innovation Centre in Broadstairs, www.ebpkent.co.uk has been working closely with local secondary schools for quite a few years now, organising both careers days and also Business of Enterprise events.

Having been asked to help in this process some 4 years ago, Martin Crowther, Managing Director of VR Sani-Co Ltd, based in Herne Bay has assisted in a couple of important ways

Firstly as a judge in the Business of Enterprise events, where several teams of 14-15 year old students within a school present business plans on an innovative product or service to a team of experienced judges.

Secondly at careers days within the schools giving students interview experience for when they attend there first “real” interview.

Martin, who set up VR Sani-Co with his wife over 15 years ago to provide a ladies sanitary disposal, nappy waste disposal, air freshening and sanitising services throughout Kent and the South East, finds this volunteer involvement interesting and exciting. “ I never cease to be amazed at the quality of the business plans and presentations produced by the students. Their enthusiasm is infectious and has helped stimulate new ideas and approaches in our own business. It is also very satisfying to feel that you may have helped the students, in whatever small way, along the path to a good career”.
